"Wherever we invest, we must contribute to the local economy and society." Huayou actively fulfills its social responsibility and promotes the development of the local society. In order to carry forward the spirit of science and promote the improvement of the scientific literacy of young people in Quzhou, the Party branch of the Nonferrous Research Institute of Huayou New Material Industry Group, together with the Party branch of the Precursor Research Institute and the Party branch of the Quzhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University, went into the New Century Elementary School of Quzhou on April 1-3, and carried out a three-day colorful and varied science popularisation activities.
On April 1, Ding Xiaojie from the Nonferrous Metals Research Institute showed the first-grade students the different phenomena of sinking and floating of different fruits in the water in an easy-to-understand way, and let the children experience the buoyancy in the water, which was used to talk about safety precautions when playing in the water in summer. At the end of the lesson, the children said, "Teachers from Huayou vividly told us about the phenomenon of sinking and floating, just like the feeling of swimming in the water, and kindly advised us to pay attention to safety when playing in the water, which not only increased our scientific knowledge but also made us know how to protect ourselves better.
Yang Mengmeng from the Precursor Institute explained the redox reaction and complex decomposition reaction to the Grade 3 students through the small experiments of iodine povine changing colour and balloon getting bigger, guiding them to discover the science around them.
On 2 April, Yang Shuang from the Precursor Research Institute led the students to make beautiful Turkish balloons, giving them plenty of opportunities to explore and experiment, and letting them use "science" in practice. Wang Yike used the morning dewdrops, small drops of water and soap bubbles as an example, to introduce the children to the existence of the "invisible force" in the water. After participating in the experiment, the children was surprised the strength of the "invisible force" ! The students asked questions enthusiastically and the atmosphere was warm.
On April 3, Dr Tian Yulan from the Party Branch of the Nonferrous Metals Research Institute guided the students to complete a small scientific experiment using baking soda and white vinegar, which made them feel the dynamic beauty of chemical experiments and stimulated their interest in chemistry, and encouraged them to actively participate in the experience of the wonders of chemical experiments.
